No matter how healthy you are right now you have most likely thought “I could be healthier” at least once or twice. We have all felt, at least once or twice, like we need to eat better, choose wise and work out more often. The most important thing is that you do something about these feelings when you have them. Working hard to better your health and fitness are important if you really do want to be healthier. It is equally important that you realize that fitness also involves your brain (not just your body). Having said that, here are some ways that you can work to build your fitness.
Be part of a program. If you want to get fit, joining a program is one of the best ways to do just that. Your local community center or gym probably has quite a few different fitness programs you can join. You should also consider joining an online program if local programs don’t suit your needs. If you want to work on your endurance as well as your fitness Couch to 5K is great. A very popular program is the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. These are just a couple of the programs you can do on your own that people have used and found success with. Take some time to figure out which program will give you the best results! While you want to increase the intensity of your workouts over time, you do not want to increase the intensity every day. Constantly increasing the intensity of your workouts won’t actually build up your muscles. This will only make it easier to tear down your muscles. Exercise works by tearing down a muscle and then giving it time to heal and get stronger than it was before. Your muscles need time to heal after you work them. You want to alternate your workouts. You should do a vigorous workout one day and then something simple and quick the next day. This keeps you burning calories but it gives your muscles time to heal and build strength over time.
Stay hydrated throughout your workout. If you are going to be doing a hard workout and are worried about the loss of your electrolytes simply keep a bottle of Gatorade or Powerade handy. At minimum you want to keep a water bottle close by so that you can take a drink regularly during your workout. If you do not make yourself take drinks periodically throughout your fitness program, your body could become dehydrated which can wreak havoc on your system. Of course not all drinks are created equally. You want to stay way from juices with a lot of sugar, soda pop and booze.
Achieving true fitness does not have to be as difficult as it sometimes seems. As long as you work hard and are patient you should be able to get fit with few problems.
