Although children are normally transparent about what they want or need, do not be fooled into thinking that this is the case all the time. Deep inside, they do have some hidden needs that need to be addressed as well, although they may not voice them out. We as parents have to understand them completely to gain access to these hidden needs, or feeling that they have, in order to have a fruitful and beautiful relationship with our children. Children would want their hidden needs to be addressed as well, although they may not say so. If the needs are not addressed, they would display their displeasure by throwing tantrums, or cry for small issues. We as parents, are responsible in making sure that the feelings and wants of our children are fully understood and fulfilled, so what can we do to deal with this?
Firstly, parents must understand that children constantly need attention, and if they do not get enough of it, they would become quite different and reserved, resulting in several uncomfortable situations. Thus as a parent, the most powerful balm that you could provide your child with is your attention. Your child must be your number one priority, and make sure that you show that to your child as well. Put away other things such as work, television and friends when you are at home, and concentrate fully on your child. This would make your child feel fully-wanted, and never again would you hear complaints that you are neglecting your child.
Attention is a powerful tool to create a special bond between the parent and the child, thus make full use of it to create a beautiful relationship for you and your child. Set up a good long-range policy with your child that you utilize consistently with all your children (if you have more than one). Offer plenty of love with your attention, and always be gentle with your children. Make your children understand what is right or wrong, and why they are such. Listen to your children, and let them share what they feel. On your part, make them feel wanted, and give them all the attention that they seek. Make them understand that there is a time for everything, and everyone would get a chance to do what he or she wants at a certain time.
Always remember that a parent’s attention is the most powerful and effective remedy for a lot of issues and problems that a child might be facing, thus always be there for your child, and look forward towards a beautiful long term relationship with your kid.
